FAQ

We understand that visiting a new church can be a daunting experience. We want you to feel welcome and comfortable at Fairview, so we've made a list of questions that families ask us all the time. If your question isn't answered here, don't hesitate to contact us!

What should I expect when I arrive?

You will be greeted at the door by one of our ushers and directed towards our Children's Ministry area if you're bringing children with you. We're located downstairs, and it's easy to follow the colour-coded stripes on the wall to direct you to the appropriate classroom for your child.

Do I need to register my children?

No, and yes! We have a Plan to Protect(TM), which means our priority is the safety of your children! When you arrive at our Kids Area, we have trained greeters that will walk you through the sign-in process. We require that you sign them in, and when you return at the end of the service to pick them up, you'll sign them out so that we know your kids got safely connected back with you. We'll also get you to fill out a short Visitor Registration so that we can follow up or connect with you later. No prior registration is needed for visiting our programs.

Why are you collecting my information?

Safety is one of our primary concerns. Because of the nature of Children's programming, sometimes there is a need to follow up after an event with you as a family, and we need enough information to be able to do this. We promise that your information is secure with us!

What kind of training have your volunteers experienced?

We have a careful screening process for all of our volunteers so that you can be assured of your child's safety. Police checks and Plan to Protect Training is mandatory for all of our volunteers. That means everyone who you see as part of our team has been approved by the church leadership and trained in safety and leadership for their position.

My child tends to be nervous in new situations, can I stay with them?

Of course. We want all of you to feel welcome and secure, and if that means you as a parent are joining us for part or all of our program, that is totally ok! We'll get you to wear a Visitor name tag so everyone is aware that you are an approved visitor with us, and not in a leadership position.

What if my child needs me during the service?

We have a pager system for Nursery and Toddler installed discreetly at the front of the auditorium, so if your infant or Toddler needs you, your pager number will be displayed. When you sign your child in you will be given a pager number.

We also have a team of ushers that patrol our hallways during the service so that if we need to contact you, we'll send an usher to get you from the service. Don't worry - if your child needs you, we'll make sure you get connected as quickly as possible.

My child has special needs, are you equipped to handle that?

This is a hard one to answer. We have a great team of leaders, but we also recognize our limitations. If your child has special needs and you're concerned about them, we encourage you to contact us at the church ahead of time so we can make a plan. There are lots of ways we can meet the needs of your family, but advance notice is the best way to ensure this.
